Inflation accelerates to 8.6%: Vegetables again lead price increases

Consumer prices in September 2024 increased by 8.6% compared to the same month last year (up from 7.5% in August), according to data from the State Statistics Service.

The agency reported that prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 8.5% during the reporting month.

Vegetables saw the largest price increase compared to September 2023, rising by 56.4%.

Butter increased by 21.2%, fruits by 16%, bread by 13.3%, milk by 12%, and cheese by 10.8%.

Fish prices went up by 8%, while pasta increased by 5%.

At the same time, the State Statistics Service recorded a decrease in prices compared to the same month in 2023 for eggs (down 20.4%), sugar (down 4.6%), sunflower oil (down 1.4%), and meat and meat products (down 0.3%).

Fuel and oils rose in price by 6%, transportation services by 9.1%, and electricity by 63.6%.
