The Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe has shipped nearly 1,000 tons of OCTG pipes for a large-scale geothermal project in Slovakia. The project is expected to provide approximately 175,000 MWh of thermal energy, sufficient to heat tens of thousands of households, according to Interpipe.

Geothermal energy is one of the most promising directions in Europe’s green transition, offering heat extraction from the Earth’s interior with virtually zero CO₂ emissions and high supply stability.

For the project, the company supplied nearly 1,000 tons of seamless casing pipes with API Buttress threaded connections, ranging from 7″ to 13 3/8″ in diameter. The pipes are manufactured to the API 5CT standard and designed to operate under challenging geothermal conditions, including high temperatures and pressures.

“Geothermal energy is becoming a key pillar of Europe’s energy transition, offering significant technical potential. Interpipe provides a comprehensive portfolio of OCTG seamless products, including proprietary premium connections specifically designed for geothermal applications. These include the UPJ-SP connection, compatible with API Buttress, and the UPJ-QR connection. Both are available in a wide range of diameters to meet the requirements of the European geothermal market,” said Bartłomiej Kania, OCTG Sales Manager for Continental Europe at Interpipe.
