Israel has begun treating severely wounded Ukrainians with serious eye injuries as part of an international humanitarian project.
The initiative was launched by Bnei Zion Medical Center in Haifa, which has already admitted its first seven patients from Ukraine who sustained severe eye injuries during the war.
The patients will undergo complex reconstructive surgeries followed by rehabilitation.
Most of the patients have lost an eye or suffered severe injuries to the eye socket and eyelids.
The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Lev Echad humanitarian organization.
Its goal is not only to provide medical treatment for the victims but also to help establish a specialized system in Ukraine for treating and rehabilitating patients with severe eye injuries.
Three doctors and a nurse from Lviv traveled to Israel alongside the patients and will undergo training at Bnei Zion Medical Center.
Upon completing the program, they will help establish the first specialized center in Lviv dedicated to the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with similar injuries.
The partnership between Bnei Zion Medical Center and Lev Echad has been ongoing for more than two years.
During that time, Israeli medical teams have repeatedly traveled to Ukraine to treat victims and train local healthcare professionals.
