The Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar will be the official representative of the British company OneWeb in Ukraine. This could become an alternative to Starlink.
Currently, the company is testing OneWeb technologies jointly with some military units. Then they will offer these services to businesses. This was announced by the B2B director of Kyivstar, Konstantin Vechir, at a business summit in Kyiv.
"We understand and have requests... from the special sphere of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to what Starlink does not always perform the tasks that businesses or defense place on it. This is providing communication in critical conditions," said Konstantin Vechir.
In March of last year, the telecommunications holding Veon, which owns Ukraine's largest mobile network Kyivstar, entered into an agreement with the British company OneWeb regarding the integration of the company's satellite services with its terrestrial network.
Each OneWeb terminal provides connectivity to hundreds of people and can operate on solar energy. Also in March 2023, the company launched the final 36 satellites from its initial "constellation" of 616 satellites.
