Kyrylo Sazonov: The Kremlin has returned to its old tune

The Kremlin has returned to its old tune. In other words — they claim they want peace, Trump also wants peace, but aggressive Ukraine and Europe supposedly want war. This misleading statement was released to the media through Peskov. He says: “Russia is ready for a peaceful negotiations, Trump calls to sit at the negotiation table, but the EU and Kyiv do not want it.”

It’s obvious that this is a lie. Peace negotiations were already dissected in detail back in August during numerous meetings and consultations. It is Russia, the aggressor, that sets unrealistic demands. Instead of packing up and leaving Ukraine’s international borders, the occupiers are demanding not even a cessation of hostilities, but that parts of the territory they failed to capture be handed over to them. Such demands, given their capabilities, find no support anywhere. That’s why the negotiations never even start.

So what’s happening? Why is Moscow suddenly returning to this rhetoric? Are they intimidated by “Tomahawks” or a gasoline crisis? Will they propose exchanging Donetsk region for something else? Or is this simply another attempt to appeal to Trump using purely peaceful rhetoric without any real action?
