Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk defeated compatriot Angelina Kalinina at the start of the competition in Adelaide, Australia.

Adelaide International, 1st round: Kalinina – Kostyuk – 0:2 (6:7, 1:6)

From the early games in the match, a trend emerged. Successful serves by the Ukrainian alternated with exchanges of breaks. This scenario played out three times in the first set, leading to a tiebreak. Kostyuk emerged stronger in the tiebreak.

In the second set, the competition did not go well for Kalinina. Kostyuk took the lead with an early break, leading 2:0. She then gave her compatriot a chance to narrow the gap in the third game. However, this local success turned out to be the last for Kalinina.

Instead, Kostyuk quickly secured the match with two more breaks. She closed the set and, consequently, the entire match in just 27 minutes. The winner's statistics in this match are impressive – 6 aces, 85% of points won on the first serve, and 75% of break points won.

In the next round, Kostyuk will face the winner of the match between Marketa Vondrousova and Aliaksandra Sasnovich. The Czech player received the third seed in Adelaide, while the Belarusian tennis player advanced to the first round through the qualifying rounds.
