A massive Russian overnight missile attack on Kyiv killed at least 13 people and injured around 90 others, while rescue teams continued searching for survivors trapped beneath the rubble of destroyed residential buildings, Ukrainian officials said on July 2.

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, damage was recorded in every district of the capital, with the Darnytskyi district suffering the most severe destruction. Part of a residential building was completely demolished, and rescuers are continuing search-and-rescue operations. Among those believed to be trapped under the debris is a 15-year-old girl and her family.

Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko said Russia launched dozens of ballistic missiles during the overnight attack, describing it as another large-scale strike targeting Ukraine. Kyiv was the hardest-hit city, with at least 20 residential buildings sustaining direct hits and nearly 100 buildings damaged across the capital.

Emergency crews were working at 15 locations across the city, clearing debris and searching for additional survivors. Authorities warned that more people could still be trapped beneath collapsed buildings.

The attack also struck a Kyiv emergency medical services substation, damaging the facility and nine ambulances. Six employees, including paramedics and drivers, were injured.

Among the wounded are three children who remain hospitalized in Kyiv. Klitschko said they include a one-year-old boy and his sister.

The overnight assault also disrupted power supplies, leaving some consumers in Kyiv and four other regions without electricity. Separately, severe weather caused power outages in around 70 settlements across four regions, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Local authorities have opened emergency assistance centers in affected districts while rescue operations remain ongoing.
