For more than 80 days, Gerasimov has commanded the war on the territory of Ukraine — Military Media Center has collected the opinions and conclusions of experts.

Colonel Serhiy Cherevaty, the spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, commented in the Military Media Center that the change in the leadership of the Russian so-called "military operation" in Ukraine "strategically did not change absolutely anything."

We will remind you that the Chief of the General Staff of Russia, Valery Gerasimov, took personal command of military operations on the territory of Ukraine on January 11, 2023.

The British Ministry of Defense concluded that since then, Gerasimov tried to launch a broad offensive to take control of the entire Donbas. However, 80 days later, "it is increasingly clear that this project has failed."

According to Serhiy Cherevaty, the plans of the Russian command were thwarted due to "significant losses among the Russian occupiers."

And the losses, according to the spokesman, were caused by the fact that the enemy made a mistake in the strategic plan and "while trying to carry out occupation actions for several weeks, in reality, faced more than a year-long war."

"Therefore, he was forced to act no longer proactively, but reactively, that is, reacting to the events that took place, primarily due to the total resistance of both the Ukrainian military and the entire Ukrainian people," Serhiy Cherevaty said.

According to him, both the mobilization of hundreds of thousands of Russians and other measures took place in the mode of "ambulance", trying to adjust the military machine of the occupier to the whims of the military-political leadership.

Among them, is the use of "absolutely unacceptable methods for the war of the new generation, such as the use of prisoners, who were thrown attack after attack as cannon fodder."

Cherevaty noted that this led to a "deplorable result", when the enemy could not take the Ukrainian district center of Bakhmut for 9 months.

Bakhmut became "a world-famous symbol of Ukrainian courage, indomitability, and professionalism on the one hand, and of the absolute helplessness and stupidity of the occupiers on the other," Serhiy Cherevaty said.

The British Ministry of Defense noted that in several directions of the front in Donbas, Russian troops achieved only minor successes at the cost of tens of thousands of casualties and largely wasted their temporary advantage in personnel, obtained as a result of the autumn "partial mobilization".

Ukrainian military analyst Colonel Petro Chernyk noted that "none of the Russian generals were preparing for this type of war."

"Career growth there is not based on professional qualities; everything is based solely on pleasing the "first boss". At the moment, Russia does not have a high-quality professional senior general," said Petro Chernyk.

Therefore, according to him, the change of military leaders from Russians does not change anything at the front.

"They resorted to the classic Stalinist technique: the Russians cannot lose on the battlefield, as many soldiers' lives are needed - as many as we will spend. This is what they do," the analyst said.
