The World Bank project “Restoration of Energy Supply During the Winter Period and Delivery of Energy Resources” will be expanded to include six more Ukrainian cities: Chernihiv, Kremenchuk, Kryvyi Rih, Mykolaiv, Slavuta, and Sumy.
The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine announced the expansion.
“The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) have signed an agreement expanding cooperation under the World Bank project ‘Restoration of Energy Supply During the Winter Period and Delivery of Energy Resources,’” the statement said.
Under the second stage, the project will now cover not only Kharkiv but also Chernihiv, Kremenchuk, Kryvyi Rih, Mykolaiv, Slavuta, and Sumy.
Funding for this stage amounts to 116 million USD, and the implementation period has been extended until the end of April 2027.
UNOPS will handle the procurement, transportation, and delivery of essential equipment and materials for municipal district heating companies designated by city councils. This includes mobile and stationary water-heating boilers, mobile mini-cogeneration units, pipes, pumping systems, and other key components needed to repair centralized heating systems, as well as equipment to support alternative heat sources.
During the first phase of the project, a grant of 47 million USD was received. Kharkiv has already received 13 modular houses, 15 cogeneration units, 7 electric motors, 10 gas generators, and other necessary equipment, which is now being installed. The delivery of the remaining purchased equipment and materials is nearing completion.
