Nearly 5,000 Hasidic pilgrims have already arrived in Uman, Cherkasy region, for the celebration of Rosh Hashanah. Security measures in the city have been strengthened.
This was reported by the press service of the State Migration Service. 'This week, Hasidic pilgrims have been arriving in large numbers in Cherkasy to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, from October 2 to 4 in the city of Uman. Security measures in the city have already been strengthened. Currently, around 5,000 pilgrims have arrived in Uman,' the statement reads.
According to the State Migration Service of Ukraine, a special regime for entry and exit from Uman was introduced starting September 23. A mobile situation center has been set up, equipped to monitor and ensure security on the streets during the celebrations.
'Patrol police and other law enforcement agencies are working in an enhanced mode. Israeli police officers have arrived in Uman and, together with their Ukrainian colleagues, are on duty at places where Hasidic pilgrims are staying,' the report noted.
A unit of the Central-Southern Interregional Department of the State Migration Service, reinforced with specialized vehicles and mobile automated workstations, will monitor the legality of the foreign guests' stay, the press service added.
