Defense ministers of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden, along with Iceland’s foreign minister, announced that their countries will jointly allocate $500 million to the “Ukraine Priority Needs List” (PURL) initiative.

According to the joint statement published on the website of Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the ministers’ meeting in Helsinki, the countries reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s security, emphasizing its fundamental importance for Europe’s stability.

“We are united in our pursuit of a sustainable and just peace, with full respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and the legitimate aspirations of its people,” the statement reads.

The eight nations pledged to provide long-term and coordinated military assistance to Ukraine through capability development, defense-industrial cooperation, and measures aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s ability to deter future Russian aggression.

“To demonstrate our support, we have jointly decided to contribute $500 million under the Ukraine Priority Needs List (PURL) initiative. This mechanism enables the purchase of critical defense equipment from the United States, directly enhancing Ukraine’s resilience and its defense against Russian aggression. This is one of many ways our countries are supporting Ukraine,” the ministers stated.

The declaration also underlined that Russia’s aggressive war represents a long-term threat to European security, the transatlantic community, and the rules-based international order.

“We will not allow it to succeed. Ukraine’s security is directly linked to our own,” the statement concluded.
