The awards ceremony, created in 2012 and turned into a benchmark in the world of poetry, was held at the Teatro Real.

Two Ukrainian theatres, the Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater and the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre, received the Best Opera Theater award at the International Opera Awards gala, which was held November 28 at the Teatro Real (which won the same award in the last year).

With this award International Opera Awards wanted to recognize the courage and resistance in continuing to be active despite the war situation in Ukraine. Although the invasion forced both theaters to close initially, both have recently reopened, staging world-class shows again. Those responsible for both stages received the award while listening to the audience's standing ovation at the Teatro Real.

This is the first time that two opera companies have jointly received this award.
