Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, at the congress of his party "Fidesz" on Saturday, reiterated that he considers the opening of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union a mistake until Ukraine is "ready" for it.
The text of Orbán's speech was published by the Hungarian pro-government publication Magyar Hirlap.
A part of the Hungarian Prime Minister's speech was dedicated to his vision of the European Union, where, in his opinion, there will be "serious political battles" in the coming months. Among them, he mentioned discussions about changes to the budget and "rectifying the mistaken promise to Ukraine to start negotiations" on EU accession, "because Ukraine is currently light-years away from the European Union."
"We resist the machinations of Brussels bureaucrats; we resist the influx of migrants; we resist gender propaganda; we resist the illusions of war; we resist Ukraine's unprepared membership in the EU; we resist 'green' ideologies, which increasingly show signs of communism and even Jacobinism," Orbán declared.
He also stated that Hungary should not leave the European Union but rather change it because, according to Orbán, the EU will "simply fall apart" without "radical changes."
"We don't want Europe and Hungary to turn into an open-air museum," he added.
Recently, Hungary has intensified its threats to block the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU, citing alleged infringements on the rights of the Hungarian-speaking minority in Ukraine.
