Moscow would regard Tokyo as being hostile to Russia and will implement countermeasures against Japan if PAC-3 interceptor missiles produced in Japan are delivered to Ukraine.
According to NHK, Russian Deputy Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrey Nastasyin made this statement during a briefing, commenting on the agreement between Japan and the United States regarding the transfer of PAC-3 missiles.
The Russian diplomat expressed skepticism about the deal between Japan and the U.S. and suggested that Japanese interceptor missiles might end up in Ukraine.
“Moscow would regard Tokyo as being hostile to Russia if Japanese missiles are transferred to the Ukrainian army,” Nastasyin said.
He added that Russia would respond strongly in such a case but did not specify what concrete measures might be taken.
“Russia reserves the right to take the most resolute countermeasures, including in the context of its bilateral relations with Japan,” the Russian representative noted.
PAC-3 missiles are defensive weapons designed to intercept tactical ballistic and cruise missiles, which are used daily by Russian forces to attack civilian infrastructure and residents in Ukraine.
