Russian military aggression has set the world back by over 150 million tons of CO2 emissions on the path to climate neutrality. This information was shared by Ruslan Strelets, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, on his Facebook page.

In monetary terms, this is a significant amount, equivalent to 11.7 billion euros (based on the market value of one ton within the EU ETS). Therefore, the most important thing today is to unite with the rest of the world to hold the climate aggressor accountable.

Ruslan Strelets discussed the mechanisms for holding Russia accountable and Ukraine's preparations for the COP28 climate conference with 18 representatives of foreign diplomatic missions.

Among the participants were ambassadors and representatives from Italy, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Bulgaria, Brazil, Austria, France, Canada, Moldova, Japan, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Romania, Spain, as well as the UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine, Denise Brown, and the Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine, Katarina Mathernova, and representatives from UNICEF and UNDP.

It's worth noting that last year, Ukraine had its first-ever national pavilion at COP27. This year, Ukraine is actively preparing to represent the country properly, with the support of international partners from Germany, the European Union, and UNDP.

They hope that at COP28, the world will join Ukraine's initiative, proclaimed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at COP27, to create a Global Platform for assessing environmental and climate damage caused by the war.
