On January 23, the artistic director of the Berlin International Film Festival, Carlo Chatrian, and the executive director, Mariette Riesenbeck, presented the main competition programs of the event. Among other things, the festival will host a special screening of the documentary "Superpower" by American actor and director Sean Penn and producer and director Aaron Kaufman about the war in Ukraine.
"This is more than a documentary film (...). At the festival, which will take place a year after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it is important to show the film that Sean Penn and Aaron Kaufman shot in such difficult conditions," the film festival website says.
"Penn was in Kyiv shooting a film with Zelensky when the war in Ukraine burst," Chatrian said at a press conference, Variety reports.
And he added: "We are very grateful to Sean Penn and the whole team for choosing the Berlinale to show this film about the role of art and artists."
Riesenbek and Chatrian also said that this year's Berlinale would be blue and yellow - the colors of the flag of Ukraine.
