Since the beginning of the war in Israel, 15 journalists have been killed. Eight more were injured, and three have gone missing or were detained. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), an international organization, reported this and called on all sides to ensure the safety of journalists covering the conflict.
Of the 15 journalists who died after the unexpected attack by Hamas on Israel's southern border on October 7, 11 were Palestinians, three were Israelis, and one was Lebanese.
Not all of these journalists, as well as those who were injured or missing, were working at the time of the incidents, but it has been confirmed that they were on the job.
CPJ states that journalists in Gaza are currently facing high risks as Israel prepares for a possible ground offensive and continues to launch airstrikes on the sector.
The statement also mentions that the organization is investigating information about threats to journalists and damage to media offices.
"CPJ emphasizes that journalists are civilians performing an important role during the crisis and should not become targets for warring parties," said Sherif Mansour, the coordinator of CPJ's programs in the Middle East and North Africa.
According to him, journalists throughout the region are making great sacrifices to cover this horrific conflict. Therefore, all parties must take measures to ensure their safety.
CPJ has published a list of journalists who have been confirmed to have died during the war, along with information about them and details of their deaths, injuries, or abductions.
