"Everyone should understand that civilization is an idea that is currently in danger. And now there is only one enemy in civilization â Russia. There is also only one solution to the struggle - unification. The theater can become a medium that will bring us closer on a sensual level due to the shared emotional experience that occurs during the performance," the actress of "Slovo.Theater Group" by Olesya Zakharova.
Despite the war, Ukrainian and American artists from Slovo are united by one goal. Theater Group continues to represent and develop Ukrainian culture abroad through the theater performance "Mothermotherland" based on the novella "I am (a Romantic)" by Mykola Khvylovy.
Due to the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine, it was decided to move the project of the American artist Audrey Rose Dégez from Kharkiv to the USA. The play's premiere took place in Pittsburgh and later in other major American cities.
"For almost 100 years, Russia tried to assimilate and destroy Ukraine. In addition to territorial aggression, the world must understand that the second front, which must not be lost, is the preservation of Ukrainian history, including Ukrainian art," emphasizes David Hickton, the project sponsor.
The project's main goal is to popularize Ukrainian culture through theater, strengthen the voice of Ukraine and highlight acts of terrorism by Russia.
The project is implemented in cooperation with the Ukrainian Institute.
