The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has detained another Russian informant in the Kharkiv region. He was identified as a 62‑year‑old resident of Izium who was assisting the Russian military command in preparing an offensive operation in the region.
On the instructions of the Russian forces, the suspect tracked and transmitted the geolocations of Ukrainian troops defending this strategically important area of operations.
The Russian forces were particularly interested in backup command posts, fortified positions, fuel and ammunition depots, as well as artillery firing positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Using the informant’s coordinates, the Russian forces planned to launch massive strikes with combat drones and heavy guided aerial bombs.

In addition, they hoped to use the intelligence to determine the main directions of ground attacks on the Ukrainian defensive lines.
For communication with Russian intelligence officers, the agent used an anonymous chat in a messenger, where he sent map markings of potential ‘targets’ with detailed descriptions.
SSU cyber specialists uncovered the covert connection between the informant and the Russian forces, documented his intelligence activities, and detained him.
According to the case materials, the suspect came to the attention of the Russian forces by posting his own anti‑Ukrainian comments on Telegram channels.
The man walked around the city and its outskirts, recorded the positions of the Defense Forces on his smartphone, and after returning home, compiled the collected data for the Russian forces.
During searches, the suspect’s mobile phone was seized, containing evidence of his work for Russia.
SSU investigators informed him of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 114‑2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information about the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations established under Ukrainian law, committed during martial law).
The offender is in custody without the right to bail. He faces up to eight years in prison.
