In 2024, Ukraine will host the Sunny Bunny queer film festival for the second time. The organizers have announced the dates and started selling festival passes.
The festival, founded by the organizers of the Kyiv International Film Festival 'Molodist,' will take place from April 19 to 26 at the Zhovten Cinema.
Bogdan Zhuk serves as the festival director, and Andriy Khalpakhchi, the artistic director of 'Molodist,' is the honorary president.
The 2024 edition will feature:
• Main competition for full-length feature films
• Programme of debut films 'New Colors'
• Documentary film programme
• Children's film program 'Queer Kid'
The organizers note that a wide range of national and international short films will be showcased, and an international competition for short queer films will be held for the first time.
The first festival took place in the summer of 2023. Curator Bogdan Zhuk emphasized that holding events focusing on human rights during a full-scale invasion is crucial.
The film festival emerged from the eponymous program of the 'Molodist' film festival, which has been in existence for over 20 years. The award for the best film on the LGBTQ+ theme, at one point, became one of the oldest in the world among non-specialized film festivals.
During the first festival, more than 60 full-length and short films from around the world were screened.
