Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina suffered a setback at the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal, losing in the very first match to her American opponent.
In the first round of the main draw, the Ukrainian player was defeated by American Danielle Collins, who had previously overcome the qualifying stage.
The match lasted just over an hour, and Svitolina lost both sets with a score of 2:6.
This was the second encounter between the two players. The first match took place in 2020 in Brisbane, where Svitolina also suffered a defeat.
As noted by the sport.ua, Svitolina has not won in Montreal since 2018 when she was defeated by American Sloane Stephens in the semifinals. In 2021, she also lost in the first round, being defeated in three sets by British player Johanna Konta.
