The Czechs donated about a million dollars to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), which were collected during a flash mob dedicated to the anniversary of the Soviet occupation.
This was reported on Facebook by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Czech Republic.
It is noted that 54 years ago, on the night of August 21, the territory of Czechoslovakia was occupied by the troops of the Warsaw Pact, "cutting off the hopes of the Czech and Slovak people for a free democratic life."
As part of this anniversary celebration, a flash mob was held in the Czech Republic "Let's transfer 1968 crowns to the Ukrainian military." "More than 14,000 people took part in the action, transferring 24.2 million Czech crowns to the embassy's charity account, approximately one million dollars. The action was initiated by lawyer Petr Nemets and the Weapons of Ukraine initiative," the embassy said.
Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine in the Czech Republic Vitaliy Usatii noted that the Czechs and Slovaks, who survived the experience of the occupation, "are aware of the tragedy of the Ukrainian people who oppose Russian aggression."
The embassy opened a charity account to purchase Czech-made military material for Ukrainian defenders from the first days of Russian aggression. During this time, more than 1.2 billion CZK have been credited to the account.
The Embassy of Ukraine in the Czech Republic stated that the citizens of the Czech Republic are transferring Sumy in 1968 crowns to help Ukraine, thus recalling the invasion of Soviet troops into Czechoslovakia in 1968.
