The European Union has reached an agreement with Azerbaijan to increase gas supplies to member countries in order to reduce dependence on Russia. This was announced by the European Commission's press service.
European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson stated that the EU plans to increase gas imports from Azerbaijan.
"There is a collective ambition from all partners and stakeholders in this region to increase gas supplies from Azerbaijan. This includes increasing supplies to 20 billion cubic meters by 2027. We will also need to upgrade existing gas infrastructure," Simson said.
She added that Russia has proven to be an unreliable partner in supplying gas to Europe.
At the same time, it is noted that during 2023, Azerbaijan supplied nearly 12 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe.
