The International Festival of Contemporary Art GogolFest will be held in Zaporizhzhia from October 18 to 20, 2024.
This year, the festival is dedicated to the Feast of the Protection and aims to support the residents of frontline Zaporizhzhia with contemporary meanings. The programme includes performances by Ukrainian bands Dakh Daughters, Pyrіh i Batih, and Zapaska.
The opening will feature a nine-meter installation that is the central part of the upcoming memorial complex “Planting. Tree of Memory.” It takes the form of a metal tree, with each branch engraved with “the bright memory of the warriors who gave their lives for freedom.” The complex is designed by director and military serviceman Dmytro Kostiunynskyi.
For the first time in Ukraine, the festival will present the play “City of Mary” as well as “Sunny People.” Additionally, there will be a Ukrainian-German project titled “Mother's Heart: Children Preserve Our Tears,” directed by Vladyslav Troitskyi. This story focuses on the tragedy of mothers whose children are at the front.
A multimedia installation “Shelter. Protection” is also announced, where attendees can listen to works by Ukrainian authors and see artists’ creations. A separate art object will be an interactive structure made of old suitcases, where everyone is invited to place something special for themselves to contribute to the installation.
