Today, the Cabinet of Ministers merged the Ministry for Strategic Industries into the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. This will create a unified space for defense management and strengthen coordination and interaction of all its elements.
This was announced by Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal on Telegram.
He said that the institutional functions of the Ministry for Strategic Industries will be integrated into the Ministry of Defense structure. In particular, functions related to attracting investments to the defense industry and cooperation with defense partners, including joint weapons production.
“We will complete all organizational procedures in the shortest possible time so that the relevant structural units within the Ministry of Defense will operate at full capacity,” Shmyhal said.
At the same time, government representative to the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnichuk, said the decision was made to liquidate the Ministry for Strategic Industries and transfer its functions to the Ministry of Defense.
A liquidation commission for the Ministry for Strategic Industries has now been created. From now on, the Ministry of Defense is the main body in the system of central executive authorities responsible for the formation and implementation of:
- state policy on national security in the military sphere, defense, and military construction in peacetime and special periods;
- state industrial policy, state military-industrial policy, state policy in the defense-industrial complex and aviation industry;
- and it ensures the formation and implementation of state policy in the field of space activities.
