In the conditions of a blockade of the Ukrainian border, Romania is rapidly constructing a highway to the ports.
This information is reported by Ziarul de Vrancea.
The construction in question is related to the "Moldovan Highway," which is intended to become a new transportation corridor for Ukraine in the future.
It is expected that the highway will connect Bucharest to the border. The completion of the project is anticipated in the last quarter of 2024. According to journalists, hundreds of pieces of equipment and around 3000 workers have been mobilized for construction, and the construction activities are ongoing around the clock.
Once the highway is operational, Ukraine will gain access to Romanian ports for further export of its products. Moreover, it will serve as a new transportation corridor to EU countries, especially considering the blockade of the Ukrainian border by Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia.
Due to the border blockade, Ukraine is experiencing significant financial losses. Therefore, the opening of the "Moldova Highway" will expand Kyiv's export opportunities and increase revenue to the state budget. The projected length of the new highway is 450 kilometers.
The completion of this project is expected to have a significant impact on the economic and social development of the entire region, strengthening Romania's road infrastructure.
