The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, opposed the resumption of direct flights with Russia.

She stated this on January 20, reports "European Pravda" with reference to the Georgian media Formula news.

At a press conference on January 18, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, expressed the hope that direct flights between Russia and Georgia would soon be restored.

According to Zurabishvili, "at a time when all partner countries express maximum solidarity with the selfless struggle of Ukraine, the position of the government and the ruling team is unclear."

Zurabishvili said that "instead of resuming air traffic, the government should take care of the country's reputation and respond to the accusations against the country of circumventing sanctions."

"All this requires a serious state approach and a refutation of the accusations, which will be categorical and confirmed by facts," the president of Georgia said.

She also recalled that she repeatedly called on the government to seriously study the issue of the influx of Russian citizens in Georgia with all its social and political parameters so that the society feels "that its national interests and security are taken into account and protected."
