President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, Jean-Noël Barrot, who participated in the annual conference of Ukrainian ambassadors.

The head of state thanked him for the visit, which demonstrated support for Ukraine. This morning, Jean-Noël Barrot visited one of the Kyiv districts affected by the heavy Russian shelling overnight.

“We are grateful to President Macron for his support, leadership within the coalition of willing countries, and assistance in everything Ukraine has needed since the beginning of this war. Two days ago, I spoke with him, and we agreed on some important decisions,” Volodymyr Zelensky noted.

The President expressed special thanks for the Mirage aircraft, which have significantly strengthened Ukraine’s strike aviation capabilities, particularly in destroying Russian drones and cruise missiles.

During the meeting, they discussed France’s defense support, especially the critical need for air defense systems, as well as training of Ukrainian soldiers and the outcomes of meetings in the “Ramstein” format. Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is ready to expand joint defense production and highlighted the decision of French companies to begin manufacturing drones on Ukrainian territory.

Among other important discussion topics was strengthening sanctions against Russia to achieve peace. The head of state welcomed the adoption of the EU’s 18th sanctions package against Russia, including the lowering of the cap on Russian oil prices.

“We need to continue our efforts to help you protect the Ukrainian people and increase pressure on Russia to reach a ceasefire. This will enable genuine peace talks that will lead to a fair and sustainable peace,” said the French Foreign Minister.

Additionally, the parties discussed the negotiation process for Ukraine’s EU accession. The President acknowledged the efforts of France and its partners to develop a mechanism to open the first negotiation cluster.

Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Jean-Noël Barrot for his personal stance in supporting Ukraine and Ukrainians and awarded him the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, 3rd class.
