Today, October 18, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine recognized the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria as temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation.

This was announced by People's Deputy of Ukraine Yaroslav Zheleznyak in his Telegram.

"The Rada supported the recognition of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria as temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation and the condemnation of the genocide of the Chechen people," Zheleznyak wrote.

According to him, the corresponding resolution was supported by 287 deputies.

In turn, the head of the inter-factional association "For a Free Caucasus" People's Deputy Aleksey Goncharenko stressed that such a decision of the Verkhovna Rada is "extremely important" today.

“Putin has been trying to enslave the Chechen people for a very long time, he put his Gauleiter Kadyrov in charge, and now he is forcing the Chechens to fight against the Ukrainians. This is a typical Russian imperialist policy towards other peoples,” Goncharenko wrote.

It should be noted that the Chechens started talking about the genocide of their own people in Russia because Putin's main mobilization foundation is the so-called "small peoples" of the Russian Federation.

It should be noted that since the beginning of the war, about 8,000 soldiers have gone from the Republic of Chechnya as part of the so-called "Kadyrov's" detachments to the war in Ukraine. Less than half of them are ethnic Chechens, the Chechen opposition claims.
