Upcoming events of the Odessa and Ballet Theatre for January.


Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (7 May 1840 – 6 November 1893) is widely considered the most popular Russian composer of all time. He wrote many very popular classical works including the 1812 Overture and three ballets: Swan LakeThe Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker. His works include symphonies, concertos, operas, ballet and chamber music.

Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 is one of the the most popular concertos ever written and his Symphony No. 6, the â€˜Pathétique’, is one of the great symphonic masterpieces of all time. He turned to literary and dramatic sources, including Shakespeare, for a number of orchestral compositions. Tchaikovsky’s music combines tuneful melodies, impressive harmonies and colourful orchestrations.

The choreographers’ journey to comprehending the music of The Nutcracker turned out to be a long one, and the score of this ballet remains incredibly attractive for the ballet theater of the 21st century.

The Sleeping Beauty

Libretto by I. Vsevolozhskiy and Marius Petipa based on the fairy tale of the same name by Charles Perrault. Choreography by Marius Petipa. The fragments of choreography by K. Sergeev and F. Lopukhov are used.

The performance is attended by ballet dancers, mimansa, the theater orchestra, pupils of the exemplary ensemble of classical dance "Fuete" of the Children's Art School No. 4 (directed by M. Kozyar, A. Pogoretskaya) and the Children's Choreographic School in Odessa (director - O. Knizhnik).
