On April 27, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Oleksandr Tkachenko, met with the All-Party Parliamentary Group of the United Kingdom on Libraries, Information, and Knowledge.
The Minister told British parliamentarians about the current situation in Ukraine and the risks to Ukrainian libraries, archives, and cultural institutions due to Russian aggression, as Russian troops are barbarically destroying everything in their path. As a result, more than 15 libraries have already been damaged or destroyed. Unfortunately, this figure is not final.
"I called on British parliamentarians, officials and heads of cultural institutions to help Ukraine. In the long run, this could be financial support: funds for restoration, grant support for the book sphere through the Ukrainian Book Institute, and distribution of Ukrainian literature abroad. I am grateful to my British colleagues for their support. We agreed to keep in touch on further steps and possible partnerships between Ukrainian and British libraries," said Oleksandr Tkachenko.
