Ukraine and Japan have entered a new phase of technological cooperation with the launch of a joint Ukraine–Japan digital technology initiative aimed at strengthening innovation, investment, and business ties between the two countries.

The agreement was formalized through a memorandum signed by Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The new platform is designed to support joint projects in digital innovation, expand investment opportunities, and build a structured partnership between government institutions and the private sector.

According to Ukrainian officials, the Japan–Ukraine Digital Tech Cooperation Initiative marks a new stage in bilateral relations, bringing together Japan’s advanced technology sector and Ukraine’s growing IT industry.

“The initiative creates a space where technology companies from both countries can exchange expertise, sign contracts, and scale digital solutions globally,” said Oleksandr Bornyakov, Acting Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.

The memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation between IT companies, startups, investors, and government institutions. It prioritizes collaboration in several strategic areas, including artificial intelligence, robotics and automation, cybersecurity, unmanned systems, and the development of digital infrastructure and the IT industry.

Officials say the initiative is intended to facilitate both innovation and commercialization of new technologies, while strengthening ties between business ecosystems in Ukraine and Japan.

Japanese State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kenji Yamada welcomed the signing of the agreement, emphasizing its practical focus on bilateral cooperation.

“I am very pleased that we were able to sign a memorandum that defines concrete areas of cooperation for the development of the digital and innovation sectors of Ukraine. We hope to further deepen the partnership between Japan and Ukraine in the digital sphere and work together toward Ukraine’s recovery and economic growth,” he said.

The initiative is expected to create new opportunities for scaling businesses, attracting investment, and strengthening the innovation ecosystems in both countries. It also reflects a broader effort by Ukraine and Japan to deepen economic and technological cooperation amid Ukraine’s ongoing reconstruction and digital transformation.
