A temporary 276-metre bridge across the Dniester River is being built between the Ukrainian town of Yampil and the Moldovan village of Cosăuți. It is expected to open by the end of 2026, according to Autostrada, the company responsible for construction.
So far, workers have completed 180 metres of the bridge and installed 15 of its 24 metal supports, the company said. Each support consists of eight tubular elements and three icebreakers designed to protect the structure from ice.
The roadway of the temporary bridge will be approximately 11 metres above the Dniester River. The structure will feature steel beams and reinforced concrete slabs with a special surface to improve tyre grip.
Access roads to the bridge are also being built. On the Ukrainian side, construction of approximately three kilometres of new road is nearing completion. On the Moldovan bank, an access road will be built to connect the bridge to the local road network.

Once the bridge opens, Vinnytsia region will have a direct transport connection to the Moldovan city of Soroca. The new route is expected to facilitate passenger transport across the Ukrainian-Moldovan border and provide an additional corridor for international logistics.
According to the company, approximately 2.25 million border crossings were recorded between Ukraine and Moldova from June to August 2026, an increase of 12.9% compared with the same period in 2025.
The temporary bridge is also expected to create the conditions for resuming construction of a permanent 1,309-metre bridge across the Dniester.
Construction of the permanent crossing began in 2021 but was suspended following the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
