Ukraine and Slovakia have agreed to establish an Eastern European energy hub.
This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal following the second intergovernmental consultations with Slovakia.
“We have agreed to create an Eastern European energy hub aimed at utilizing gas storage, developing the Mukachevo interconnector, and cooperating in the nuclear industry. This will strengthen not only the energy security of our two countries but also the security of the entire Eastern European region,” said the head of the government.
Shmyhal added that Ukraine and Slovakia will also implement a joint project to modernize the electric interconnector “Mukachevo – Veľké Kapušany.” He stated that the project is planned to be completed by the end of 2028.
“As a result, we will expand our export-import capabilities and strengthen the energy security of both states,” emphasized the Ukrainian Prime Minister.
He also noted that Ukraine is grateful to Slovakia for its energy support.
“I want to emphasize that Slovakia is the second-largest country in terms of both emergency and commercial electricity transfers to Ukraine. This allows us to respond to the energy challenges of wartime,” Shmyhal added.
