Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine for European Integration Yaroslav Demchenkov held an online meeting with Secretary General of the Energy Charter Guy Lentz.
Within the course of the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the reconstruction of Ukraine's energy infrastructure and the post-war development of the Ukrainian energy sector.
"Infrastructure in many regions of Ukraine is damaged or destroyed. We do not need to restore the energy sector "as it was" - as a Soviet legacy with low efficiency that does not meet the needs and challenges of the 21st century. We will not spend time and money on the restoration of objects that are obsolete 20 years ago. We intend to use the latest technologies, and attract technical assistance and investment to implement projects for the development of sustainable energy," said Yaroslav Demchenkov about the vision of the Ministry of Energy of the relevant processes.
The Deputy Minister also took part in a meeting of the Budget Committee of the Energy Charter, devoted, inter alia, to the approval of the program of activities to support and restore the energy sector of Ukraine.
Yaroslav Demchenkov informed his colleagues about the current state of the Ukrainian power system during the war, the extent of destruction and damage caused by active hostilities in Ukraine, as well as measures taken to ensure the proper functioning of the energy sector and plans for its reconstruction.
