Ukraine develops GPS-free multi-drone control technology for frontline logistics

Ukraine's Ministry of Defence and the Brave1 defence innovation cluster are working to scale up multi-drone control technology.

The technology is already helping Ukrainian forces deliver supplies to the frontline more efficiently.

Multi-drone control allows several UAVs to take off sequentially and navigate towards a designated destination without relying on GPS. This makes them resistant to Russian electronic warfare (EW) systems.

The technology operates as follows:

  • The operator selects a destination on a map, and the system automatically calculates routes for the entire group of drones, preventing collisions.
  • The drones fly autonomously without GPS and maintain their orientation even in electronic warfare environments, using secure communications.

All drones are integrated into a single control interface. The operator can switch between them with one click and takes manual control only during the final minutes of a mission.

Among the first Ukrainian units to systematically adopt multi-drone control for logistics missions was the 108th Separate Assault Battalion "Da Vinci Wolves", part of the 59th Separate Assault Brigade of Unmanned Systems named after Yakiv Handziuk.

The technology has already delivered measurable results for the unit.

Within one month of its introduction, the number of supply deliveries doubled.

Ukraine's Ministry of Defence and Brave1 continue to develop technological solutions that help Ukrainian forces expand their capabilities and carry out essential missions more efficiently.
