The total unrealized export potential of twenty key sectors of the Ukrainian economy is estimated at USD 16.8 billion.
This was reported in a presentation of studies presented during a meeting of the Scientific Platform at the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture.
The meeting focused on a detailed discussion of three studies prepared by the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting on Ukraine’s competitiveness in foreign markets and the development of domestic exports.
According to the analysis, Ukraine retains significant potential to expand exports across a wide range of industries, including agricultural production, the food industry, metallurgy, woodworking, and engineering. The priority export markets remain European and Asian countries.
“For each of the 20 sectors, export value indicators, comparative advantages, trade specialization indices, priority export geographies, and the monetary measure of unrealized export potential were analyzed. According to the assessment, the total unrealized export potential of these 20 sectors amounts to USD 16.8 billion,” the statement reads.
The meeting also presented results of a study on the use of preferential trade conditions and Ukraine’s participation in European and transregional value chains. Experts emphasized that, despite the lack of a noticeable statistical effect, the potential of such mechanisms remains significant if cooperation with economically important partners, particularly Turkey, is expanded.
