Ukraine is interested in involving American companies in the demining of territories contaminated with explosive hazards due to full-scale Russian aggression.
This was discussed during a meeting between Ivan Sopiga, the State Secretary of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, and representatives of American businesses experienced in similar work in Asian and African countries.
Ivan Sopiga spoke about the situation in the field of demining Ukrainian territories. He emphasized that the process continues despite ongoing Russian shelling.
“Historically, most countries began demining their territories only after active hostilities ended. But Ukraine started clearing lands contaminated with explosive devices already during the full-scale war,” Sopiga stressed.
According to him, this allows life to return to regions that have been liberated by Ukraine’s Defense Forces. To speed up this process, Ukraine is interested in involving new experienced demining operators with financial support from partner countries.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed other key needs, challenges, and opportunities for implementing joint projects in humanitarian demining.
