Ukraine’s Defense Ministry prepares Firefly guided munitions for mass production

Ukraine’s Defense Ministry prepares Firefly guided munitions for mass production

The Ministry of Defense has developed a new class of guided munitions called Firefly, which has passed testing and is ready for serial production.

Firefly operates effectively at altitudes of up to 800 meters. After being released, the munition independently calculates its flight trajectory and adjusts it toward the target, maintaining accuracy even under enemy electronic warfare interference. This allows it to strike fortifications, dugouts, and other protected positions from a safe distance for the carrier platform.

Developers tested Firefly on Ukraine’s main bomber drones. The system confirmed its effectiveness and is ready for mass production.

The path to serial production was opened by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated October 13, 2025, No. 1310. The document allows the Ministry of Defense to transfer technology usage rights to private defense companies. Achieving technological superiority over Russian forces is one of the priorities of Ukraine’s defense strategy.

In the first half of this year alone, the Ministry of Defense codified and approved for use by the Defense Forces 1,184 new types of weapons and military equipment. More than 90% of them are Ukrainian-made. Ukraine’s defense arsenal has also been expanded with more than 200 different types of ammunition.
