On the night of May 7, Russian forces carried out an atypical aerial attack, which occurred in several waves. Out of 187 UAVs, 81 strike drones were destroyed, and 64 drones were lost in terms of location.

This was reported by Yurii Ihnat, head of the communication department of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, during a TV broadcast.

"Today, this is an atypical attack because several waves of attacks took place. The attack began last night, around 8:30 PM, from different directions. The enemy is attacking from the northern Russian regions – Kursk, Bryansk, traditionally Millerovo – and also from the occupied territories and Rostov region. From there, they traditionally launch 'Shaheds'; launch sites can vary. It's clear that strike UAVs can be launched from mobile platforms. And today, one of these attacks took place against our state. In total, as of now, we have preliminarily identified 187 strike UAVs and imitator drones. You know they launch them simultaneously in such a way as to complicate the air defense forces and air forces' situation, making it more difficult to shoot down the real 'Shaheds,'" said Ihnat.

He mentioned that, currently, there are no air alerts in the regions on the map, but tactical aviation remains a threat in both the northern and eastern directions.

"Thus, out of the total 187 UAVs, 81 strike drones were destroyed, and 64 UAVs were lost in terms of location. This information may still be updated," the spokesperson added.

Ihnat emphasized that the Russian attacks are directed not only at small towns but also at large cities, demonstrating real terrorism.

"Additionally, today, five ballistic missiles were also used – 'Iskander-M' or KN-23. Experts who will examine them later will specify what type of missiles they were. Two ballistic missiles were shot down by air defense today," the spokesperson said.

Ihnat noted that while there is much talk about a ceasefire, Russia continues to attack Ukraine, destroying cities, infrastructure, and terrorizing the civilian population.
