Founder of the Latvian company Mosphera has announced that Ukrainian military have requested several dozen more of their electric scooters. In early 2023, Latvia had already delivered several camouflaged, robust Mosphera electric scooters to the Ukrainian military.
Since then, they have proven themselves well, with two units of the Ukrainian army requesting over two dozen more units. A charitable organization has also requested over 30 such systems on behalf of Ukrainian military personnel, totaling nearly 70 units, as reported to Breaking Defense.
The scooters have received "very positive feedback" from Ukrainian soldiers who use them for "performing combat tasks." According to Mosphera's director Klavs Asmanis, the request is currently under consideration by the Latvian government, but his company is prepared to fulfill the order.
Asmanis describes it as the "world's first electric scooter for military purposes," though he characterizes it as powerful enough to be considered a "standing motorcycle." He states that the scooter's maximum speed exceeds 96 km/h, operates "completely silently," is compact enough to be quickly concealed in bushes, and can navigate rugged terrain — making it ideal for discreet reconnaissance, scouting, and logistical missions.
Ukrainian servicemembers have shared that Mosphera scooters allowed them to move quickly and quietly through forests along animal trails, which would have been too noticeable by motor vehicles and too slow and hazardous on foot. In addition to electric scooters, Ukrainian defenders also utilized electric motorcycles, a tactic that has intrigued American servicemembers.
