Servicemen from one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ separate mechanised brigades have carried out their first logistics mission using a Ukrainian-developed amphibious unmanned ground vehicle (UGV).
The amphibious UGV travelled more than 40 km across land and water, delivering food supplies and ammunition to Ukrainian positions.
Water obstacles pose a significant challenge to military logistics. Rivers, canals and marshy terrain can complicate or completely block routes for conventional UGVs. Aerial logistics is also not always the optimal solution.
An amphibious UGV can cover such a route using a single system. On land, it retains the high cross-country mobility of a conventional UGV and can transition to water within seconds and continue moving.
This gives a single robotic system greater flexibility to carry out missions across different types of terrain.
The system used in the mission underwent several months of development in close cooperation with the military, taking into account real operational tasks, combat experience and the specific terrain conditions on the front line.
Ukraine’s Brave1 defence innovation cluster provided grant support to help bring the system to practical deployment. In June 2026, Brave1 introduced a dedicated “Amphibious UGVs” track as part of its updated grant programme.
Ukraine is expanding the capabilities of robotic systems to provide its military with more technological tools for carrying out combat missions.
