Seven Ukrainian tennis players, led by Marta Kostyuk, have learned their opponents for the opening round of the US Open main draw.
According to the tournament's official website, Ukraine's top seed will face American McCartney Kessler in the 1/64 finals of the major. This will be their first-ever meeting on the court.
Elina Svitolina will go up against Argentina's Maria Lourdes Carle in the first round, another first-time encounter. Dayana Yastremska is set to face Germany's Jule Niemeier. Meanwhile, Angelina Kalinina will play Frenchwoman Océane Dodin for the second time in her career. In 2021, Kalinina won the ITF final against Dodin in Nantes.
The experienced Lesia Tsurenko will compete against American Peyton Stearns. Kateryna Baindl will have her first match against Italy's Elisabetta Cocciaretto. The toughest draw fell to qualifying winner Yulia Starodubtseva, who will face Belarusian Victoria Azarenka.
All matches are currently scheduled for Monday, August 26, though organizers may later adjust the exact start times, with some matches potentially taking place on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Earlier, the US Open announced a record-breaking prize pool for the tournament. The seven Ukrainian players have already earned $100,000 each, while the tournament winner will take home $3.6 million.
