Ukraine currently has the capability to prepare up to 10 brigades (with one brigade consisting of 1,000 to 8,000 soldiers) for defense against a potential Russian invasion. This capability is aided by the support of Ukraine's allies.
Valeriy Zaluzhny, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, made this statement during a briefing.
General Zaluzhny emphasized that he supports any initiatives that enhance accountability for unprepared fighters entering the front lines, stating that there should be no unprepared individuals.
"We have a fantastic opportunity to utilize both our own capabilities and the opportunities provided by our partners. Our partners pay significant attention to this. In fact, our capabilities are practically unlimited at the moment. We can prepare up to 10 fully equipped brigades," stated General Zaluzhny.
He also commented on the initiative to introduce compulsory military service for individuals aged 18 to 25. The Chief of the General Staff emphasized that individuals entering the military should be capable of fulfilling combat tasks, as it is a challenging endeavor.
"I want them to join in a state where they can do this. And if they are already prepared, I am all for it," added the general.
