President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that strengthening Ukraine’s long-range capabilities compels Russia to show readiness to end the war, and he also confirmed that developing the country’s air defense system remains a priority.

The head of state made these remarks during his address on Telegram.

“The more Ukrainian long-range capabilities there are, the greater Russia’s readiness to end the war. These past weeks have confirmed this once again,” Zelensky emphasized.

The President also drew attention to the international response to discussions about the potential transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, which, he said, became “a strong investment in diplomacy.”

“The discussion about Tomahawks turned out to be a strong investment in diplomacy—we forced Russia to show that Tomahawks are precisely the card they pay attention to,” he noted.

“The frontline can be the beginning of diplomacy. Meanwhile, Russia is once again doing everything to avoid diplomacy,” the head of state stressed.

According to the President, immediately after Ukraine gained more long-range capabilities, Russia showed a reduced interest in negotiations.

“As soon as the issue of long-range weapons for us—for Ukraine—advanced even a little, Russia almost automatically became less interested in diplomacy. This is a signal that this very issue—the issue of long-range capabilities—may provide an irreplaceable key to peace,” Zelensky said.

Zelensky also informed that Ukraine will continue negotiations with European and American partners to expand its long-range capabilities, while the main priority remains the development of the air defense system.

“Preparations are ongoing for a contract with the Americans regarding a sufficient number of Patriot systems for us—for both the near term and longer term. I have instructed to intensify this direction,” Zelensky said.
