Russia is preparing to launch new strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said during a meeting with energy workers on Thursday, April 17.
"We know what Russia is preparing. We have data from our security services and intelligence. Right now – and before and after Easter – new strikes by Russia are possible," the president said.
He emphasized that Ukraine will continue to protect its energy system.
"We will continue to protect our country, our energy sector. But this defense is not just in air defense missiles, not only military personnel are ensuring it. Everyone who works diligently and efficiently in every community, in every region of ours – we are grateful to everyone for ensuring Ukraine has electricity, for Ukraine's recovery," he stressed.
Zelensky also noted that Ukraine has managed to survive the third winter of full-scale war without a blackout.
"It was difficult, there were many threats, power outages, and losses. But Ukraine has preserved its energy system – united and operational. This is an extraordinary achievement of our people, of the people. Many people who protect energy facilities, restore them after strikes, repair them – and even under fire – build what is needed for protection, ensure the operation of power plants, networks – all of our energy sector. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians worked to ensure that Ukraine did not lose its energy," the president concluded.
During the meeting, he also awarded state honors to energy sector workers.
