Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska defeated Colombian Emiliana Arango in three sets in the second round of the clay-court tournament in the capital of Spain.
The match ended with the following scores: Mutua Madrid Open, 2nd round Arango – Yastremska – 1:2 (6:0, 5:7, 4:6).
Yastremska struggled in the opening set, failing to secure a single game as her Colombian opponent dominated, closing out the set in just 24 minutes.
However, Yastremska bounced back in the second set, seizing the initiative after a tight start. She took a 5-2 lead with two breaks, but Arango managed to level the score at 5-5. The set then became a nerve-wracking battle, with Yastremska emerging as the winner.
The decisive set was also tightly contested, with five out of the first six games going in favor of the player serving. Yastremska emerged as the leader in this segment and secured the victory.
In the next round, the Ukrainian tennis player will face the winner of the match between Gauff and Rus. The American and the Dutch player will compete later on Thursday. The total prize fund for the Madrid Open is over $8.7 million.
