Kazakhstan has begun construction of a new artillery ammunition factory in cooperation with a partner from Singapore, reports Defence blog.

The facility will produce both Soviet-standard shells (122 mm and 152 mm), which are still widely used in Central Asia, and NATO-standard shells (155 mm). This will help meet the needs of the army and support export deliveries, attracting a variety of clients.

This step is aimed at strengthening the country's defense industry and reducing dependence on imported weapons, especially amid growing regional instability and changing global supply chains. The factory is being built within one of Kazakhstan’s national industrial parks, but the exact location has not yet been disclosed.

In December 2024, Singapore’s ST Engineering signed a strategic partnership with Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering (KPE) to produce a new multipurpose 8×8 amphibious armored vehicle, based on the Terrex infantry fighting vehicle and designed for operations in open water. Production started in April 2025 at KPE’s factory in Kazakhstan, with an annual capacity of 500 armored vehicles. The vehicle can reportedly be equipped with combat modules ranging from 7.62 mm to 105 mm caliber and is suitable for countering aerial threats, including drones.
