The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, commented on the fighting in the city of Pokrovsk and the results of the Ukrainian units’ airborne operation. He spoke about this in an interview with Channel 24.
“The situation in and around Pokrovsk is extremely difficult. But at the same time, we’re somehow holding on,” Budanov said.
According to him, one of the key operations involved an air assault from helicopters to open a corridor for other units.
“The operation was commanded by the unit commander. I was nearby and assisted him as much as I could. We have heroic soldiers. Their victories cannot be taken away,” he noted.
Budanov also emphasized the operation’s importance for the defense of Pokrovsk.
“We were able to buy precious time so that the main units of the Armed Forces could approach the city for reinforcement as calmly as possible,” he explained.
He also highlighted Pokrovsk’s propaganda significance for Russia.
“Pokrovsk is a key element of their propaganda and also a key element in the military domain they are currently focusing on. Capturing the city would be a major victory for them if it happens,” Budanov stressed.
