Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky predicts that this year, Uman will see twice as many Hasidim as last year.
In an interview with RBC-Ukraine, Brodsky said,
‘According to our forecasts, almost twice as many Hasidim will come this year compared to last year.’
He attributed this increase to last year's security concerns, which have since eased. 'Since nothing extraordinary happened and Hasidim believe it will be safe, they are coming in greater numbers,' he explained.
'Although we continue to emphasize that Ukraine is not the safest place in the world due to the ongoing war and potential risks, since Ukraine has not restricted the entry of pilgrims and Israel cannot technically impose restrictions, tens of thousands of pilgrims will come again this year,’ Brodsky added.
The ambassador noted that the Israeli side maintains excellent contact with Ukrainian security services responsible for maintaining order and safety in Uman.
Brodsky also informed that, as in previous years, Israeli police officers will be sent to Uman to assist their Ukrainian counterparts in ensuring the safety and security of the pilgrims.
‘I hope, as was the case last year, everything will proceed relatively smoothly, and the pilgrims will come and leave peacefully after a few days,’ he concluded.
As reported, nearly 2,000 Hasidic pilgrims visited Uman in early April for the celebration of their spiritual leader Rabbi Nachman's birthday.
This year, Rosh Hashanah will be celebrated from October 2 to 4.
